Portugal is increasingly welcoming gastronomic festivals and events. For example, in 2025, Porto will host the second Michelin Guide Portugal gala. But this time, we’re talking about another city. After all, it’s not every day that our country hosts the World Cheese Awards.
Considered the ‘Oscars of Cheese’, this will be the first time the event has been held in Portugal and it has already been guaranteed that it will have the highest number of entries ever, beating all previous records. In this sense, the setting chosen was Viseu, from November 15 to 17.
We beat all records
If you’re a big cheese lover, then you’ll probably want to follow this event closely, or even go there. After all, Viseu is only about a 1h30 drive from Porto.
As already mentioned, the World Cheese Awards will see the biggest turnout ever, and these are some of the highlights:
- 4784 cheeses entered
- 47 participating countries
Portugal will also be well represented, with a total of 182 national cheese producers.
“World Cheese Awards: exhibitors, producers and more
In addition to the figures already mentioned, there are other highlights to bear in mind. In addition, the world press will be represented by more than 100 professionals from the sector.
Spain, the United Kingdom, Italy, Brazil and Japan are some of the main markets confirmed to be in Viseu. As for the always demanding jury, the event will have 250 experts from 40 nationalities, with the Portuguese contingent increasing to 35 professionals.
It should also be noted that the World Cheese Awards will feature a Cheese Summit and a Gastronomic Festival, open to the public and with free admission.
