A fire in Sever do Vouga, in the district of Aveiro, and two in Fafe (Braga), were today, at 11:00, the most worrying in the country, a source from the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC) told Lusa.
In Sever do Vouga, the flames have been consuming forest populations since 02:17 and are being fought by 50 vehicles, around 170 operatives and five aerial resources, a source from ANEPC told Lusa.
Due to this fire, the National Road 16 (EN16) between Carvoeiro and Poço de Santiago is closed, but “there is no knowledge of homes at risk”, he added.
In Fafe, two fires are burning, one of which is in Cruz de Carrelhas, which started at 00:22 today, and involves 49 vehicles, four aircraft and more than 160 firefighters.
Also in Fafe, the fire that broke out in Soutelo on Friday is back on fire, and is being fought by 15 vehicles, two aircraft and more than 150 firefighters.
In Fafe, there are no reports of houses being threatened or roads being cut off.
At 11:00, 17 rural fires were burning, “many of them still on alert”, with firefighters on their way to the scene.
The fire in Silvares, in Fundão (Castelo Branco), has been under control since Saturday, but 170 firefighters and 58 vehicles remain on site to prevent, monitor and stabilise the perimeters.
At 11:00, 1,250 firefighters were involved in operations related to fighting fires on the mainland, assisted by almost 370 vehicles and 19 aircraft.
