Palmares celebrates clubhouse restaurant retaining coveted Michelin star

Must read

Golfers looking to sample the finest that Portugal has to offer can enjoy more than just an exceptional on-course experience at Palmares Ocean Living & Golf as the Algarve resort’s Al Sud restaurant receives a Michelin star for the fourth consecutive year.

One of the most prestigious honours to be bestowed on a restaurant, the team at Al Sud – led by renowned chef Louis Anjos – has once again retained the coveted accolade it first received just six months after opening in 2021.

Situated within the 27-hole resort’s clubhouse, designed by Pritzker Architecture prize-winning RCR Arquitectes, Al Sud enjoys magnificent views over the Bay of Lagos and the Alvor Estuary and opened to much acclaim. Conjuring up contemporary fine dining with a creative touch, Anjos – who heads out of the kitchen to greet his guests in person – sources ingredients from the Algarve and its coastline to create an array of delectable dishes, including a well-balanced taster menu that gives special attention to seafood sourced daily from the auction in Sagres.

Representatives from Palmares and Al Sud were present at the Michelin Guide Portugal 2024 Gala on February 27, an event held in the Algarve for the very first time, to celebrate the news of the restaurant’s continued success.

Speaking after the event, Anjos said: “We are so pleased to have retained our Michelin star status here at Al Sud for the third year running. This accolade is reward for the entire team who work tirelessly to ensure every visitor enjoys an unforgettable experience when they step foot in the restaurant. It fills me with great pride that we continue to do just that while using the best ingredients the region has to offer.”

As one of just a handful of golf courses in Portugal to boast a Michelin-star dining experience, visitors to Palmares can enjoy a golf break with a little added luxury – enhanced even further by a stay at the boutique five-star 20-room Palmares Beach House Hotel.

Integrated into the natural amphitheatre of the Bay of Lagos, Palmares’ 27-holes have been making plenty of noise since being redesigned by Robert Trent Jones Jr in 2011. Consistently rated as one of Portugal’s best venues for golf, the three nine-hole loops – Alvor, Lagos, Praia – sweep down to the oceanfront, delivering their own unique test.

As well as golf visiting accommodation, Palmares offers a range of accommodation options for those looking to buy the perfect home away from home. Signature apartments with stunning views are available, while plots for bespoke homes are also on the market.
