Muji has gone into administration

Must read

Lovers of the immaculately tidy and sumptuously minimalist goods of Japanese retailer Muji, we have terrible news. Following in the wake of the Body Shop and Ted Baker so far this year, today (March 28), Muji has called in administrators in order to avoid going bust.

Not all of Muji is going into administration. As first reported by BusinessDesk, it’s just the European arm of the company that has brought in administrators, which is responsible for its stores in the likes of Finland, France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Switzerland and Denmark.

All of which sounds bad for the homeware and clothing retailer – but things aren’t quite as hopeless as they seem. Muji says the move is a ‘strategic’ decision to restructure the company, and that all six of its UK shops will remain open. The chain’s staff also aren’t currently facing job losses.

Plus, if you were hoping to grab some cut-price Muji goods, now’s the time to do so. The shop has launched ‘Muji Week’, with 20 percent off everything.
