Michelin Guide to celebrate Porto and North Gastronomy

On the third floor of CIIMAR, in Matosinhos, Nuno Ferreira, responsible for Guide Michelin Portugal, announced that the Michelin Guide Ceremony 2025 will be coordinated by the chefs Rui Paula, Ricardo Costa and Vitor Matos, well known for their restaurants in North Portugal.

The coordinator chefs went on stage, and Rui Paula, the owner of Casa de Chá da Boa Nova, expressed how the region was eager to host the event, highlighting what North Portugal has to offer from “green wine, to Pot and an amazing gastronomical variety.” To the chef, the event will be “historic”, where food will lead everything with the help, among other things, of the greatness of local products. Rui Paula also believes the ceremony will have the same characteristics as the others hosted worldwide.

Ricardo Costa, from The Yeatman and Vitor Matos, owner of Antiqvvm expressed their sense of responsibility for coordinating an event like the Michelin Guide Ceremony 2025. The chefs also showed gratitude to Michelin for choosing North Portugal to host the ceremony.

The mayor of Matosinhos, Luísa Salgueiro thanked Guide Michelin for hosting the press conference in the city that is “a reference in the [North] region”, with around 450 and 500 restaurants, mainly focused on “the best fish in the world”, that according to her may be found in Matosinhos, as well as great seafood. During her speech, Luísa Salgueiro stated that “the further the chefs go, the further we go”, while stressing the importance of local gastronomy for the city and the region.

Luís Pedro Martins, President of Tourism Porto and North mentioned the economic and touristic gains that the event may bring to the region, enhancing high-income tourism, which will help recognise the chefs’ work. Lídia Monteiro, a board member of Tourism of Portugal stated that these kinds of events contribute to the valorisation of tourism in the region and highlighted the importance of “gastronomy to create values to people.” The member of Tourism of Portugal expressed her confidence regarding the event that, according to her, “will be successful.”

At the end of the event, Nuno Ferreira said that more announcements will be made, in events to happen in North Portugal.
