Algarve skater Miguel Bravo secures Portuguese spot at 2025 World Games

Algarve athlete Miguel Bravo, 5th in the long distance/distance events at the World Speed ​​Skating Championships, held this month in Italy, has secured a Portuguese spot for the 2025 World Games, the Portuguese Skating Federation (FPP) announced.

The Roller Lagos skater had an excellent 15 km elimination race on the road, in which he finished 5th. He entered the last lap in 4th, together with the top three, but slipped at the exit of a curve (the race was held in the rain), which made it impossible to fight for the podium.

Miguel Bravo, who performed well throughout the championship, was also 8th in the 10 km road points, 9th in the 5 km points and 11th in the 10 km elimination on the track.

The athlete from Lagos secured one of two places for Portugal at the 2025 World Games, which will take place in China from 7 to 17 August, with 101 points – the 1st place had 117, the last qualified had 53.

Roller Lagos had another skater present at the World Championships, junior sprinter Miguel Monteiro, 18th in the 500-meter and 1000-meter track events. “Good results in the speed events in a World Championship with a very high level in its category”, highlighted the Algarve team.

The World Speed ​​Skating Championships, part of the 2024 World Skate Games, took place in September in the Italian cities of Montesilvano, Sulmona and Pescara, with 58 countries registered and more than 500 skaters.
