The Spanish chain of low-cost gas stations, Petroprix, intends to open around 50 gas stations in Portugal between 2025 and 2026.
The company chose Portugal as the first country to expand its gas station business internationally and expects that these will follow the “automatic, technological and low-cost” model, it said in a statement.
“As a neighbouring country, we believe it is the right choice for our first step towards internationalisation,” says Jaime Vega de Seoane, Business Development Director at Petroprix, adding that the choice of Águeda as the first station in Portugal was “strategic” as it “allows us to be closer to the Portuguese consumer”.
The station in Águeda will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, has the capacity for six vehicles at a time and offers both regular diesel and 95 petrol.
The statement adds that the next station will be in Covilhã, scheduled to open next month.
