Must read

According to the Port of Lisbon, in June, 33 cruise ship stops were recorded, which represents an increase of 32% compared to the 25 calls recorded in the same month last year.

In terms of passengers, the Port of Lisbon received a total of 60,922 passengers in June, which represents an increase of 13% or 7,070 passengers compared to the 53,852 passengers recorded in the sixth month of 2023.

“The data for June and the first half of 2024 reveal a positive trend in cruise activity at the Port of Lisbon, with a particularly strong month of June and an overall trend towards consolidation of activity throughout the semester”, states the statement released by the port infrastructure of the Portuguese capital.

In the first half of the year, the Port of Lisbon recorded a total of 154 stops, which represents an increase of 1% compared to the same period last year, when the Port of Lisbon had received 153 calls.

In the first six months of 2024, the Port of Lisbon also registered a total of 272,187 passengers, a figure that, however, represents a decrease of 7% or 21,026 passengers compared to the same period in 2023, when the Port of Lisbon had registered 293,213.

The Port of Lisbon says that the decrease in the number of passengers was observed mainly during the first quarter of the year and explains the fluctuation with the “reduction in the number of calls by the operator NCL, which changed the itineraries of its ships to diversify the offer”.

However, the number of passengers rose again in the second quarter, with the port infrastructure explaining that from April onwards “there was a positive variation”, with an increase of 1,480 cruise passengers in Lisbon, which represents an increase of 1%, while the number of port calls increased by 14%, with 16 more cruise ship calls than in the same period in 2023.
