Cristiano Ronaldo will play in his 11th major international tournament after he was named in Portugal’s squad for Euro 2024.
The 39-year-old Al-Nassr forward is the most-capped and most-prolific player in men’s international football history. Portugal head coach Roberto Martinez included Ronaldo among seven forwards in his 26-man squad for the tournament in Germany.
Ronaldo made his international tournament debut at Euro 2004, where Portugal finished as runners-up to surprise package Greece on home soil. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner then led Portugal to victory at Euro 2016 and also in the 2018/19 UEFA Nations League.

How many players are in Euro 2024 squads?
On May 3, 2024, UEFA’s executive committee confirmed national teams would be able to name 26 players in their Euro 2024 squads.
This was the number allowed due to the impact of COVID-19 upon Euro 2020, while the FIFA World Cup taking place in the middle of the 2022/23 European season meant larger squads were also permitted.
UEFA intended to revert to a 23-man limit for Euro 2024 but the national competitions committee voting in favour of 26-man squads forced a rethink.
