Rangers are today sweating over the fitness (yes, another one) of Dujon Sterling after the utility man was seen with an ice pack following Lisbon’s epic in Portugal last night.
After yet another massive night in the Europa League for Rangers, with a very, very credible draw, the versatile player, who ran the channels brilliantly at the Estádio da Luz, was taken off around 76 minutes, and subsequently seen with iced strapping on his leg in a concerning sign that we hope is nothing serious and just precautionary.
If there is one player Rangers really REALLY didn’t want to lose it was the versatile ex-Chelsea youth who has absolutely shone this season given the chance under Philippe Clement.
That he even looked good on the wings and scored a gigantic goal last night shows how versatile the lad is, and while he still wouldn’t be Ibrox Noise’s preference in that position if all 5 of our wingers were fit, he’s doing himself incredibly proud there regardless.
Lose him, suddenly we’ve lost a really big player who’s able to fill so many positions and do it brilliantly, ergo this would be an almighty blow given the injuries he’s currently covering as it is.
So yes, it would be a painful irony if we lose to injury the guy covering about 7 players who are currently out injured.
Sterling has become a mainstay of Philippe Clement’s Rangers machine, whether he plays wide, central, midfield, wings, whatever…
He’s not one we want to lose under any circumstances and hopefully the removal of him before the end and the strapping was just being safe rather than sorry.
Because Dujon Sterling is absolutely key to Clement’s plans, and his power vital to how we play.
Here’s hoping it was just precautionary strapping.
