“We achieved our goal and now, next year, we are eager to go further”, said Valentino Salgado Cunha.
Without wanting to commit, for now, to an official certification by the Guinness World Records book, the mayor of Vendas Novas nevertheless admitted the ambition of “growing in terms of size” of the bifana.
“We will study, see what is needed for that. I don’t want to make too many commitments in this regard, because, above all, the goal is to promote the Vendas Novas bifana, mainly to people in Portugal, from Minho to Algarve”, he stressed.
At around 8:00 pm, the tables that served as support for the creation of the ‘delicacy’ were placed on site with the 15-metre-long bread, which was filled by seven bifanas restaurants in the municipality: Bifanas & Companhia, Bifanas do Patrão, O Canto das Bifanas, A Chaminé, Mercado das Bifanas, Rulote O Menino de Ouro and O Silva.
Each one contributed “with its own recipe” and “around 32 kilos of pork loin” and “50 kilos of flour” were used to bake the bread, the municipality previously estimated.
The initiative was promoted in collaboration with the local bakery and the seven bifana restaurants, on the date that marks the 62nd anniversary of the municipality of Vendas Novas.
